Visit the main Natural Protected Areas from Neamt County

Neamt County it’s full of incredible sceneries that are kept alive by the people that live here. Forces of nature have created in Neamt County a veritable open air museum that exhibits these spectacular wonders of nature that each season offer a different sight wonderful in its own way. Here are some information on the main protected natural areas from Neamt County.

Ceahlau National Park was created in 1955 as a natural protected area and its current borders were marked in 2003. The park it’s about 7,742.5 ha and it’s divided in three main protected areas: The Scientific Area “Ocolasul Mare”, The Natural Botany Reservation “Polita cu Crini” and The Monuments of Nature “Duruitoarea Waterfall” and “Avenul Mare”. These three areas host over 1100 species of flowers and 90 species of birds and animals that are also protected by law.

Cheile Bicazului – Hasmas National Park is located in Hasmas Mountain, in the central-north-east area of Romania. Thanks to the impressive size of this natural monument called Cheile Bicazului this is one of the most interesting attractions of our country. The main touristic attractions in this area are the actual rock formations from Cheile Bicazului and Cheile Sugaului, Lacul Rosu (The Red Lake), Munticelu Cave, Cheile Bicajelului and the peak Hasmasu Mare. For those that love hiking or backpacking there are also 18 touristic routes to explore.

Vanatori Neamt Natural Park is a protected area starting with the year 1998 and its main objective is to protect the population of aurochs. The park stretches over 30,818 ha. Natural reservations from Vanatori-Neamt Nature Park: “Cooper Forest” – is situated on Filiorul Hill in Agapia commune and includes over 300 plant species of rare beauty. “Silver Forest” – is a composite reserve, forest and landscape and includes old trees older than 100 years. “Dragos Voda” Bisons and Carpathian Fauna Reserve is one of the 4 existing reserves of bisons in our country and is classified as one of the largest reserves of its kind from Europe. “Dumbrava” Oak Reserve is also worth seeing.

Lake Batca Doamnei is located at an altitude of 325m and represents an important attraction in Piatra Neamt, because it offers a great panorama over the surroundings. Lake Batca Doamnei, together with Lake Pangarati and Lake Vaduri, represents a special protection area for the birds that are migrating here. Because of this, the lakes are very important for preserving the local ecosystem.

Lake Vaduri is located at an altitude of 350 m with Stanisoarei Mountains at north and Gosmanu Mountains at south. This place offers ideal conditions to spend the winter for some bird species. In the last years, here, on this lake few bird species come on a regular basis: summer swans, the big duck, the ringing duck, red duck, winter swans.

Lake Pangarati is located on the transversal sector from River Bistrita valley, at an altitude of 370m. The lake represents an important place where many migrating birds are stopping by, because of the rich food that its waters provide. It also represents a vital link in maintaining the natural habitat: plants, fish, birds, small animals.

Lake Cuejdel was “born” on the river Cuejdel and is the biggest natural dam lake in Romania, located in the Stanisoara Mountains at 25 km from Piatra Neamt, in Garcina village. The exquisite beauty of the place and the diversity of life make this place unique. All these things are those that determined the declaration of the entire area under the protection of the law since 2004.
