Museums and Memorial Houses from Piatra Neamt

The historic center of Piatra Neamt is represented by the Royal Court, together with the Tower of ruler Stefan cel Mare and St Ioan Botezatorul Church. In this location you can also visit the following museums: The Art Museum, The Ethnography Museum and Cucuteni Museum.

The most well known museum from Piatra Neamt is The History and Archeology Museum, located in Mihail Kogalniceanu Plaza. This museum exhibits objects that speak about the history of the people that lived in this area from ancient times and until present days.

If you want to take an imaginary trip into the world of the writer Calistrat Hogas, well known in Romania for his tales about trips in the mountains from Neamt County, you can visit his memorial house. Here you’ll see old objects, books, the pistols that were carried around in every trip in the mountains, original furniture and photos. Then, you can visit the Museum of Natural Science where you’ll see a unique collection of fossilized fish.

Monasteries close to Piatra Neamt

Once you reach Piatra Neamt you can’t go without visiting few monasteries from the area. Bistrita Monastery is located just few km away from Piatra Neamt on the road that goes to Bicaz. This monastery is one of the oldest from Neamt County. Here you’ll visit the tomb of ruler Alexandru cel Bun and you’ll see the religious icon of St Ana, an icon that has great value both for orthodox and historians.

Pangarati Monastery is located in Pangarati commune and is well known for the architecture of the old church. Tourists will see two old churches built on top of each other, in the same building. In Pangarati commune you can also stop on at Pangarati Lake to see the swans, during winter time.
