Wooden Church of Bicazu Ardelean – Goat Runlet

IMG_1889_resizeWhen we are on Route Bicaz – Red Lake, we can reach the wooden church at Goat Runlet which is dedicated to “Saint Dumitru” if from the Bicazu Ardelean Commune turn right for Telec, on asphalt road. At no kilometer, considered from Bicazu Ardelean City Hall, on the first knoll on the left, even on the side road, we see the walls painted in yellow, as he leaves his hat from shingles, giving the greeting and inviting the traveler to cross the threshold.

In this beautiful yew tree church, built on yew foot, has served continuously since it was raised until today. It is the oldest Orthodox Christian church on Bicaz Valley, from Bicaz Key until beyond Bicaz to Pângăraţi the only wooden church in our county fully interior painted. Therefore, the wooden church from Bicazu Ardelean is part of the historical monuments of great value in Neamt County. When you enter the church and look at the way it is painted the inside tissue in loops, it looks like in another time that as you see local people working in harmony to raise this jewelry worshiped to God, since the year 1692, when there lived a large community of Christians – Orthodox, such as mentioned Josef Benkö in his work “Milcovia”. Moreover, illustrating the harmony between local people, a distinctive feature of the Romanian people, in the church cemetery we find Orthodox graves and Greek Catholic graves.
