The History and Ethnography Museum Targu-Neamt

IMG_4543_resizeThe History and Ethnography Museum Târgu-Neamt has the origin in a first museum exhibition organized at School no. 2 from Tg. Neamt, in 1940’s, having the title Neamt Fortress Museum. In 1957, at the celebration of 500 years of the enthronement of Stefan cel Mare in Moldavia, already existed The Neamt Fortress Museum and the District Museum of Stefan cel Mare , Târgu Neamţ. The two museums will gather in the coming years (1978) in the same building of the former School Reign, where we can also find it today The History and Ethnography Museum Târgu-Neamt, presenting to the visitors historical and archaeological aspects, with a rich ethnographic heritage specific to submontane Neamt area.

In the Museum Halls are exposed representative objects from the archaeological area certified in the north east of the Neamt county, from the Neolithic, Eneolithic, up to those of the Bronze Age. The remains assigned to Palaeolithic Age, Metals, Antiquity, Middle Ages, in addition to archaeological parts exposed, are highlighted through numerous panels with images, texts, representatives maps of chronological steps mentioned, revealing not only for the artistical spirit of the community, but for the their ocupations, traditions, religion and beliefs. In one of the rooms is organized a photo-documentary  exhibition showing on short the history of Târgu-Neamt city. The museum has arranged an outdoor pavilion presenting the traditional peasent systems used along the time in various activities necessary for living, objects with a high ethnographic value.

All the museums halls are permanent exhibitions; the illustrative and  the three-dimensional materials represents elements of attractivities of the museum.

Visiting Program of the Museum- Opening Hours:

  • From Tuesday – to Sunday , 10.00 am – 06.00 pm (April –September)
  • Monday – closed
  • From Tuesday – to Sunday, 09.00 am – 05.00 pm (October – March)

Entrance fee:

  • Children, students and military: 2 Ron;
  • Individual or groups – adults: 3 Ron.
