“The Hope Chest” Art Festival – the 14th Edition, May, 24-26, 2019

Everything of beauty, value and authenticity in Romanian folk art

“The Hope Chest” Art Festival brings the traditional Romanian village in Piatra Neamţ

Already a tradition, with a history of over 10 years, The Hope Chest” Art Festival gathers dozens of craftsmen from several parts of Romania and from the Republic of Moldova at Piatra Neamţ. This year the festival reached its 14th edition and so all traditional art lovers and researchers from everywhere are expected to attend, during May 24-26, the 2019’s edition of the festival, having as a main theme “Traditions and Modernism in Romanian Folk Costumes”.

Starting on Friday, May 24, when the official opening of the festival is due to take place (at 12:00 P.M.), more than 80 craftsmen will recreate the atmosphere of the authentic Romanian village in the Youth Park, in the center of the city situated at Pietricica’s foothill. For three days, visitors of the stands will enjoy various exhibitions of handmade products, from a wide variety of thematic areas: ceramics, wood and furniture, domestic industry, soft goods and traditional costumes, leather works, glazed eggs, icons and naive painting, braids, folk masks, ornaments, traditional foods, bone objects, glassware, and even dolls and other toys.

The organizers of the event – Neamţ County Council, The Local Council and Piatra Neamţ City Hall, Neamţ County Museum Complex, “Carmen Saeculare” Center for Culture and Arts in Neamţ, The Association of Folk Craftsmen from Moldavia, The Association of Folk Craftsmen from Neamț County and “Constantin Matasă” Cultural and Scientific Foundation – invite you altogether to visit the “traditional village” in the center of the city, and enjoy the handicrafts exhibitions, the awarding ceremony of the craftsmen, the artistic moments presented to the public, and also several books launches, conferences and much more. Come and join us in a celebration of everything that is valuable, beautiful and authentic in Romanian folk art.
