“The wood civilization” colloquy from the Cucuteni Museum from Piatra Neamt

Saturday, May 25 2013, starting at 11:00 will take place during the Festival “Lada cu zestre” the Colloquy “The wood civilization”. The organizers of this event are Neamt County Council, Piatra Neamt Local Council and Town Hall, the Museums Complex from Neamt County and “Constantin Matasa” Cultural and Scientific Foundation.

The colloquy will take place in two stages: communications and book launches. The communications session will include speakers like Feodosia Rotaru from the museums complex “Iulia Antonescu” from Bacau, Daniel Calistru from the museum from Pascani, Roxana Diaconu from the History and Ethnography Museum from Targu Neamt, Marcel Lutic, president of the Artisans Association from Moldavia, Constantin Lungu, president of the Artisans Association from Neamt County, Iulia Bucur from Bacau Museums Complex, Dorinel Ichim from the cultural direction from Bacau, Eva Giosanu from the National Museum Complex “Moldova” from Iasi, Ana Barca, researcher at the National Museum of the Village “D Gusti” from Bucharest and Florin Tuscanu protopop of Roman.

The book launch will be presented by Ana Barca and refers to old wood churches from Neamt County by Elena Florescu.

“Lada cu zestre” Festival in Neamt County 2013 the VIII edition

Between May 24 and 26 in Curtea Domneasca Plaza from Piatra Neamt will take place the VIII edition of the Folkloric Art Festival “Lada cu zestre”. Through this festival we want to maintain alive the local traditions and the cultural heritage by stimulating the interest for traditions and customs in younger generations.

The festival unites some of the most well known artisans from all over Romania, specialized in ceramics, wood working, skins and furs working, weaving, traditional masks, egg painting, religious icons, musical instruments and traditional food products. The visual wealth is proof that our traditions express joy and beauty through colors and symbols.

The organizers of the event are Neamt County Council, Piatra Neamt Local Council and Town Hall, The Museums Complex from Piatra Neamt, the Artisans Association from Moldavia and the Artisans Association from Neamt County and the Cultural Scientific Foundation “Constantin Matasa” from Piatra Neamt.

Easter – time of the pilgrims

The celebration of Easter very important for Romanians and the entire family participates. On March 18 started the preparation for this holyday. Monasteries from Neamt County are places where Orthodox believers come during this time just like in a spiritual journey. Here, traditions are kept alive … here is the place where spirituality blends with the picturesque of the area. Around the celebration of Easter the entire life of the church evolves.

The religious preparation for this holyday is not easy as a symbol of all the passions of Christ. Monks don’t eat with days and spend their time in prayers. Through this abstinence from eating meat we cleanse ourselves. Hundreds of pilgrims visit the monasteries from Neamt County during this time of year.

Through the beauty of these places, Neamt County invites tourists to visit these religious and historic monuments, memorial houses or museums. At the end of this religious journey we’ll celebrate Easter together … the resurrection of Christ.

Touristic routes in Vanatori Natural Park

Vanatori Natural Park is partially located between creeks Neamt and Cracau and hosts along with its important natural reservations, historic settlements. Here, tourists can visit the famous Neamt Stronghold, monasteries like Agapia, Varatec, Agapia Veche, Horaita, Neamt, Secu, Sihastria, hermitages like Sihla, Icoana Veche, Icoana Noua, Pocrov or Daniil Sihastrul and memorial houses like Mihail Sadoveanu, Ion Creanga, Alexandru Vlahuta or Veronica Micle.

Inside the park there are natural reservations like the the Copper Forest, the Silver Forest, Dumbrava Oak Reservation and the Bison Reservation “Dragos Voda”.

Ceahlau – a mountain of prayers and shepherds

Ceahlau Massif is a true natural fortress that impresses us through its greatness and harmony. Ceahlau is constantly visited by tourists that love the outdoor life style and also its history, spirituality and legends. This is the only holy mountain from Romania that is celebrated in the religious calendar on the day of August 6.

From the birth of the world this mountain was created to be a place of prayers and shepherds. The mighty Ceahlau is surrounded by legends strongly connected to the stones from the mountain that impresses us with their mystery.

The legend of Panaghia that speaks about a stone that keeps giving love every time the sun shines down on it, the legend of Butu and Ana that remained for ever on Ceahlau mountain in the shape of two stones that represent their love, the legend of Dochia and Traian, the legend of Stanile that is connected to the misfortune of the shepherd Stanila, the legend of Detunate, the legend of “Piatra cu Apa” that reminds us of a sad story and so many others.

None of the mountains from Romania has ever impressed more powerful the eyes of explores as Ceahlau does. Once you reach this place you will always love this mountain and will always come back.

“Pogorarea Sfantului Duh” Church from “Palatul Cnejilor” Palace Ceahlau

On the area where there also is “Palatul Cnejilor” Palace there is also “Pogorarea Sfantului Duh” Church (The Descent of the Holy Spirit Church) that dates from 1639. The church was built on the expense of the brother of ruler Vasile Lupu, Gheorghe and was raised on the place where used to be the old Hangu Hermitage. The boyars of Cantacuzino family forced the monks to leave that place in order to build “Palatul Cnejilor” Palace.

The church was made of stone and bricks with a bell tower on the north side. The interior of the church is traditionally organized: the building also has two side apses in a square shape. The entrance in the church is made through a door located on the north side.

Between the narthex and the nave there is an arch opening and on the west walls of the nave there are two big religious icons from the XIX century: one with Jesus, the other with Mother Mary with Baby Jesus. The altar of the church is separated by a lime tree iconostasis made in the Baroque style.

Although the church suffered numerous restorations the construction still keeps its original shape.
