7 October 2009 No Comment

duruitoarea-waterfall-ceahlau-neamtThe complete tour goes up to Dochia Cabin and the bookmark is red cross on white background. Here is the list of points through which the route goes:

Durau (800 m) – Steofan’s Plain – In Vesuri (1200 m) – Duruitoarea Waterfall (1210 m) – Polita Scaius (1400 m) – Piciorul Schiop (1780 m) – Dochia Cabin (1750 m)

The altitude difference is 995 m and the length of the route is 7.5 km. the approximate time for this route is 4 – 5 hours. In winter the route is accessible only to Duruitoarea waterfall.

The route starts in front of the Monastery Durau. From here you follow the road up to the Salvamont point, where you pay the tax for entering the Ceahlau Park, 2 RON per person (approx 50 Euro cents). Here you can also buy a brochure with all the touristic routes that are marked in the Ceahlau Park and also some advices from the people working there. To the waterfall it’s a 2 and a half hours of walking.

At the km 19 you’ll cross the road that goes from Izvorul Muntelui to Durau. From here the ascent becomes a little …. The trail is wide and the forest is rare. In different places on the route you’ll find some places to rest with some benches and tables. After an hour you’ll reach the first plane, Steofan’s Plain. The hardest part of the ascent is over.

At the beginning of the century this area wasn’t covered with trees so the big rocks of the Ceahlau Mountain were visible in all their beauty. When you’ll exit the plane you’ll see the road that comes from the Fantanele Chalet. From here the trail goes up and down but the ascent is not hard. On the last part of the route you’ll encounter a more precipitous descent.

At some point you’ll see the Rupturi creek. You’re almost near the waterfall. You go along the creek and you see few tables where you can rest. But you’re almost there: there are only 5 minutes more and you’ll see the Duruitoarea Waterfall. The water that falls in two steps is impressive. The height of 25 m makes you here the waterfall long before you’ll see it.

The trail continues its path to the left of the waterfall. The administration of the Ceahlau Park arranged this portion that is extremely dangerous with some wooden steps and rails. In the winter the route stops here. From the waterfall you can go back in the Durau resort or you can continue up to Dochia Chalet.

Although the route is not that easy the final point is a spectacular one.  The image of Duruitoarea waterfall is impressive and the time seems to fly when you are there. It’s time to go back in Durau. You’ll start the road back with a pleasant memory and a consistent dosage of optimism and geniality. See all the routes from Ceahlau Massif.
