Neamț Fortress is part of the category of medieval monuments in Romania, of exceptional value, being located in the vicinity of the highest peak of Pleșului Peak. Watching on the valleys of Moldova and Siret, as well as on the access road to Transylvania, the Fortress of Neamţ passed through numerous sieges that took place during the distant times and represents the grand testimony of a troubled history of the Moldovan medieval state.

Built during the reign of Petru Mușat (1374-1391), the glory of the medieval fortress from Neamţ corresponds to the reign of Stephen the Great (1457-1504), due to the numerous works of strengthening and erecting its walls. The building has been declared a historical monument since 1866. The most recent works, carried out before 2009 and financed by the PHARE Program, have changed the image of the fortress, highlighting the grandeur and tumultuous past, now presented to the public in an attractive way.

CEAHLĂU NATIONAL PARK

Ceahlău Massif is considered to be the holy mountain of Romanians, a magnificent place shrouded in mystery and full of spirituality. Its legendary allure is complemented by its impressive, massive appearance, and a certain mysterious aura surrounding it. Dominating the mountains around, due to its relatively lonely position, which allows its perfect visibility, like an old pyramid or a promontory, Ceahlău Massif is easily seen from many parts of Moldavia and Transylvania. Consisting of a radius peaks system that converge to two points of maximum height, Ocolaşul Mare Peak (1907m) and Toaca Peak (1904m), Ceahlău Massif stretches on more than 290km2, of which only 10% is occupied by the alpine abyss delimited by steep stone walls, which create the appearance of a citadell.

With breathtaking views along each of the eight marked trails, Ceahlău Massif has its Dedication Day on August the 6th, when Christians around the world celebrate the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ. Every year, on August the 6th, tourists can observe a unique phenomenon in the world: The Shadow of the Pyramid. The phenomenon reaches the maximum intensity exactly on the 6th of August at sunrise, when the shadow of Toaca Peak overlapped over the shadow of Piatra Ciobanului Peak forms a natural hologram resembling a perfect pyramid, which can be seen for over 80 minutes. Some scholars believe that one of the energetic meridians of the globe passes through Toaca Peak (1904 m). This makes Ceahlău Massif a tourist attraction as interesting as Stonehenge or the Egyptian pyramids.

BICAZ GORGES – HĂŞMAŞ NATIONAL PARK

Included in NATURA 2000 – SCI (Sites of Community Importance) and SPA (Special Protection Areas), the place is a truly impressive. Giant stone walls, of over 300m high, make way for a serpentine road of rare beauty, where one can only hear the icy mountain waters roaring while tumbling down over large stone boulders. The picturesque landscape displayed by ”the Stone Kingdom” of Bicaz and Şugău Gorges made them the most famous gorges in Romania and most spectacular limestone valleys in Europe. The gorges are located in the central part of Hăşmaş Mountains, in the eastern chain of the Romanian Carpathians, and annually attracts visitors from all over the world. Accompanied by the harsh voice of the wind, each stone giant has a story to tell: “The Altar Stone”, impressively and majestically guarding the road, recalls those times when the Dacians, Romanian’s ancestors, used to practice their worship rituals here, about 5000 years ago; “The “Hell’s Throat”, where the rocky massifs meet up in the sky, evokes memories of the harsh battles with the elements, which it had conquered, over the ages, while ”The Guardian”, a straight wall that completes the apocalyptic landscape, is proud to tell about all the brave climbers who tried to escalate it, in the attempt to push their limits.

Tourists can choose among 18 hiking trails crossing the gorges, a unique attraction with overwhelming landscapes. The wilderness and massiveness of the limestone cliffs, crossed by the winding road, transform the entire area into an spectacular and interesting place not only for tourists from Romania and abroad, but also for climbing enthusiasts. Another surprise welcoming the tourists is Via Ferrata Astragalus, a unique project inaugurated in the summer of 2017. The route is the first one of its kind in Romania, being the longest Via Ferrata trail, including 5 alternative climbing routes, of different lengths and degrees of difficulty. Designed and produced according to Western standards, Via Ferrata Astragalus was inspired by similar projects in Austria and Germany.
