razboieni-monastery-2011Razboieni monastery was built by ruler Stefan cel Mare as a mausoleum church that pays tribute to those that died in the bloody battle from Valea Alba, 1476. The battle from Razboieni – Valea Alba was one of the most violent battles with the Turks. The church is a reminder of a great defeat and a tribute to the soldiers that fought and died to protect the country and our religion.

When ruler Stefan cel Mare came to the throne of Moldavia the country was torn apart by battles for power. Among the battles Stefan cel Mare had to worn was this one from Razboieni – Valea Alba from July 26, 1476. Two decades after the battle Stefan cel Mare ordered this monastery to be build.

On the south wall of the church there is an inscription in Slavic where they talk about this great battle and the losses of Moldavia. The inscription has a great historical value and it represents the birth certificate of this church.

Razboieni monastery is different from other monasteries because it wasn’t built because of a monk or nun. The only reason for the building of this monastery was the battle from Valea Alba and the great human sacrifice of Moldavian soldiers. Razboieni Monastery represents a symbol of our faith and of our determination.
