Friday, February 24 at 16:00 in the room “Theodor Macarie” from “Victor Brauner” High School from Piatra Neamt will take place an artistic show dedicated to Dragobete day. This celebration signifies the beginning of spring, the day when nature comes back to life and the birds look for nesting places.

The show is organized to celebrate the Lovers Day in the Romania calendar and brings upfront the significance of the character Dragobete which is believed to be a handsome man. Dragobete is the spiritual patron of young lovers and he can be compared with the Roman and Greek Gods Eros and Cupid. Over time Dragobete earned his place as a protector of love and patron of good will.

Under the title “Dragobetele – sarbatoarea romaneasca a dragostei” (Dragobete – the Romanian holiday of love) the folkloric dance class coordinated by Ioan Luchian and the folkloric canto class coordinated by Giorgiana Axinte-Serban will bring in front of the public a show of traditional dances and customs specific to this day.

The show will also present a representation of the young actors from the theater class coordinated by Maria Hibovski. The event is organized in partnership with “Victor Brauner” Art High School. The entrance to the show will be free.

Tradition also says that who participates at this celebration will be protected from illness all year long and that Dragobete also helps people to have a good year. The show is organized by the Folkloric Traditional School of “Carmen Saeculare” Cultural and Art Center and “Victor Brauner” Art High School.
