Legend of Panaghia

12 June 2015 No Comment

ceahlau_resizeWho climbs Ceahlău to reach Dochia Chalet, it meets with Panaghia, a majestic rock, imposing. It is said in ancient times, the Panaghia was a girl whose name was Maria. She had blue eyes, bright and blue as the sky in the summer days, the hair blacker than the deepest and silky night, the skin soft and pink, as roses from the gardens of paradise, the voice of a nightingale. At her birth, God gave her a part of his heart and soul. From day to day, the girl grew and became increasingly more beautiful, so beautiful that the sun was in love with her and she with him. He was rising very early, he watched for hours and forget to leave, so The Day was joyful, because it was getting bigger and The Night was upset, because it was becoming smaller. Therefore, The Night was lamented to God which covered the sky with clouds. Days and nights in a row the girl wept until, God took pitty on she and, turned her into rock that carries to this day, the name of Panaghia. They say that her eyes still now shine, in clear days, and yet her voice is heard singing when winds are caressing her. Panaghia fame went far into the deep distances, so all paths that climbs Ceahlău, lead to it!
