Keepers of Tradition: Art and Folk Heritage in Neamț County

22 June 2020 No Comment

What shapes up a place, a territory, a county?

A first thought would take us to the natural environment, with picturesque landscapes, and then the history, culture and ethnographic particularities of the places, well preserved and passed down from generation to generation. All of that define and identify a certain region and the main values of the community living within its borders.

“Nemțeanca” Traditional Crafts Association has an important contribution in promoting the authentic folk art specific to Neamţ County and preserving the original crafts, as they were once practiced by the ancestors. The Association produces hand works of great value and, thanks to the diversity of the crafts practiced, acts as an emissary of Neamț Land for those eager to discover its amazing customs and traditions.

Established in 2001, “Nemțeanca” Traditional Crafts Association capitalizes on various crafts (weaving, needlework, knitting, wood working art carving, furrier work, etc.) and traditions in Neamț, while keeping the encoded and extremely rich language of folk art alive. Besides the preservation of the spiritual wealth of the region, through encouraging diverse forms and styles of artistic expression, the Association continuously seeks to improve the documentary value of the individual pieces.
