Neamt County, included in the tourist cultural route of the wooden churches in Romania

6 November 2020 No Comment

Several wooden churches from Neamt County can be discovered by the curious tourists who are eager to explore these old village treasures. The churches represent the history and spirituality of places, a journey in time of about hundreds of years of history.

The tourist objectives, included in the cultural tourist route of the wooden churches in Romania, highlight the essence of the Romanian Spiritual Community and its artistic creativity, found in the decorating, imagistic and conceptual heritage. During their journey, tourists will have the opportunity to know traditions from long time ago that tell the story of the Romanian people and the unity of its nation.

The route includes places of worship in the counties of Bihor, Cluj, Satu Mare, Suceava, Neamt, over 100 wooden churches and monasteries in Maramures County and, last but not the least, two wooden churches in Mehedinti County.

“The wooden Church, with its small size and the simplicity of an ordinary house, was one of the first forms of “the Lord’s house,” dating, probably, since the very beginning of Christianity. It responded to the spiritual need of the Christians to have a sacred place for gathering members of the community and for holding Christian rituals. The Church has ensured the unity of mankind and the connection with divine, being the most important source of illumination for the soul and nurture for the mind.” Dr Elena FLORESCU, Dr. Marina SABADOS, Cornel MIFTODE – Old wooden Churches of Neamt County, C. M. IMAGO publishing house, 2012, Piatra Neamt.

Village Treasures – Old wooden Churches in Neamț County

”The existing wooden churches present themselves to the contemporary traveler as anachronistic architectural forms from the past, as a witness to an ancient way of life and as a religious belief. Anyone entering in such a place is impressed by its beauty, considering the load of spirituality enclosed in it and the many generations of believers who found their peace and ease of mind here.” Dr Elena FLORESCU, Dr. Marina SABADOS, Cornel MIFTODE – Old wooden Churches of Neamt County, C. M. IMAGO publishing house, 2012, Piatra Neamt.
