The 2nd edition of “Stairs to Toaca” National Competition

Mount Ceahlău is not only a main symbol of Neamț County, but has also become a source of inspiration for the “Stairs to Toaca” competition, initiated and organized by EMS “Petrodava” Neamț. This year, the contest will be a way of evaluating the level of physical training and the speed of reaction in emergency situations of the participating firefighters.

The “Stairs to Toaca” competition will take place on June 27-28, 2023.

Two tests await the firefighters dressed in their specific equipment, the Panaghia Race and the Stairs to Toaca Race, where competitors will test their endurance.

Almost 100 competitors appropriately equipped with boots, gloves, helmet, and breathing apparatus will test their limits, racing against time, climbing the stairs that lead to the sky to test their endurance, limits, and to demonstrate lots of adrenaline, at the height of Toaca Peak in Neamț County!

Last year, the competition took place on the 30th of September and had 30 participants from EMS “Petrodava” Neamț, and the winners of this first edition were:

Adj. Chief Grecu Mario-Ciprian (04:52)

Lt. Iancu Alin (04:53)

Lt. Găvriluț Samuel (05:00)

A woman also participated in the event last year, climbing the over 500 steps, appropriately equipped, alongside her colleagues. Adj. Stârlichi Ancuța completed the test in 07:57.

The competition aims to increase the level of preparedness of EMS employees, promote an active lifestyle and increase the visibility of the tourist attractions in Neamț County.

The staircase with over 500 steps that facilitates access for tourists to Toaca Peak is one of the greatest attractions of Neamț, the only one in the country at such a high altitude.

By climbing it, tourists travel on an amazing route, from an altitude of 1771 to 1893 meters. When reaching the final point, on Toaca Peak, they enjoy a unique panorama, a landscape of beauty that cannot be described in words. The staircase to Toaca Peak has a significant role in preventing possible mountain accidents and was built at the initiative of Neamț County Council, in 2018.
