Winter Season in the Monastic Village of Agapia
The monastic village of Agapia can be found hidden behind the walls of the Agapia Monastery and it represents a traditional model of Romanian village that keeps alive our traditions. In the winter season this place seems to go back in time and nothing that could speak about modern times can be found in the silence of nature.
The snow covers everything. The only way to travel between houses is to follow the narrow trails created by the nuns. You don’t have to know this place in order to be able to walk its trails. Your eyes are running from one house to another, wondering to the wooden embroidery.
In this village, among the houses covered in snow you’ll find the memorial house of our great writer Alexandru Vlahuta which seems to watch the entire village and the monastery from the hill where it’s placed. From here you can see the old church and near it is the bakery of the monastery, where you can buy hot traditional baked products prepared by the nuns. The village is formed out of 300 houses, built in traditional style that serves as shelter to the nuns.
Thoroughly enjoy reading your articles, great site! Romania really needs information in english. Would very much like to add the festivals you organise to our index.
