08-obiceiuri-traditionale-NeamtTraditions and customs were transmitted from one generation to another and were strictly respected as a symbol of unity in the community. The main traditions were related to religion and each village had its own ways of celebrating the main holidays. There are few categories in which we can put different customs and traditions.

We have the winter traditions and customs which are known to be cheerful and full of life. Celebrating Christmas and New Year’s Eve was a good opportunity to take part at a series of customs and traditions that mainly involved dancing and dressing up in different costumes and wearing different masks.

The religious celebrations over the year were celebrated inside the community. The main holidays were Easter and Christmas, when every person was dressed in traditional clothes.
Daily events were also celebrated with different customs and traditions. The main life events that were celebrated are life, marriage and death. There are also traditions related to the daily work such as the moment when the sheep went up in the mountains or to mark different moments in the agriculture work.

Social traditions were created to bring people together: this was also the main way of knowing your future husband or wife. In one form or another we still carry on these customs only in an updated form. We’ve also invented new ways to celebrate life and to meet. We invite you to come to Neamt County and experience the winter celebrations and the winter holidays.
