Winter at Sihastria Monastery

18 December 2012 No Comment

04-iarna-sihastria-2012December is an important month for every Orthodox church or monastery but to Sihastria Monastery this month is something more because this is the time of year when they also celebrate Father Cleopa. This year there are 14 years from his departure in that other world and when the time came to commemorate that many pilgrims were present in this holly place.

The peaceful atmosphere of the cemetery with its crosses hidden under the heavy snow welcomes you with a certain type of sorrow and peace. The trails made by pilgrims through the tombs of the monks lead your footsteps to the tombs of Fathers Cleopa Ilie, Paisie Olaru and Ioanichie Balan.

The cellar of Father Cleopa and his tomb are place of pilgrimage over the year for the Orthodox believers. Winter is a special time where nature creates a different type of beauty, frozen under the snow. Although winter has just began the snow is already the master of this place: everything is white, everything is frozen.

Sihastria Monastery is located in Vanatori Natural Park and represents to tourists more than just a religious attraction. We recommend to visit this place during winter and experience a beautiful environment under the white of the snow.
