Ecotourism’s Development in Neamț County

1 February 2022 No Comment

In 2021, one of the 10 ecotourism destinations in Romania and the only one in the country included in the Top 100 Sustainable Destinations, is in Neamț, the renowned Bison Land, which remains for the fifth year in a row in this exclusive top worldwide.

Here you will discover important landmarks of the destination, such as the Dragoș Vodă Bison Reserve, of about 11,500 ha, established in 1968, where, in addition to bison, you can also see other animal species such as Carpathian deer, Northern shovelers, deer, foxes, badgers, wolves and bears.

The land also offers you the opportunity to go on a safari, supervised by a ranger, to visit the largest monastic settlement of nuns in the country in Văratic or to enjoy the paintings of the famous artist Nicolae Grigorescu at the Agapia Monastery, maybe the greatest and most important work of the greatest painter. Also, here you can wander through the “Silver Forest” and the “Copper Forest”, locations of a special significance that inspired famous poets and writers.

Much has been written about all this and the series of writings continues, as you will discover in the article below that brings to your attention the other tourist attractions in the area, well-known both in the country and abroad: The house of the famous storyteller Ion Creangă , Neamț Fortress, that could not be ever conquered, but also the Neamț Monastery , the oldest in Moldavia, with an impressive library dating from the end of the 14th century and which counted, even from 1862, over 12,000 volumes, testimonies about important historical, medieval theological, cultural and artistic facts.

The young people from Bison Land are also active and involved in promoting the destination and constantly update its development strategy as efficiently and precisely as possible. Thus, the entire local community aims to respond as best as possible to the needs and requests of tourists. Recently, students of the Ștefan cel Mare National College from Târgu Neamț monitored, together with the Local Council, the strengths and weaknesses of the destination, but also the profile of tourists who choose to visit the area.

The activity was made possible with the financial and logistical support of the strategic partners Polgár-Társ Alapítvány – Partnership FoundationRomanian-American Foundation and the Romanian Ecotourism Association.

Last fall, a beautiful report broadcasted by TrinitasTV also talked about the magical scenery of this land and the memorable visit at the museum house of the folk craftsman Vasile Găman, emblematic figure from Neamț, who sculpted his love for the country, having art objects exhibited in museums from all over the country. He is an authentic Romanian, that people rarely get to meet:

In 2021, the Bison Ecotourism Gala had the role of appreciating and recognizing the involvement of the local community, each manufacturer, small or large businesses, folk craftsmen, local authorities, cultural or educational institutions or organizations, all those who have contributed to the sustainable development of the ecotourism destination. All these efforts are seen in the results and in everything that represent these wonderful places, cultural, historical, spiritual tourist attractions, events, experiences, nature, wildlife, protected areas and, perhaps the most important, in the quality and beauty of the people of these lands. Just as the places that remain forever in the minds of the tourists who discover them, the same goes for the people here, the Neamț locals, in general, have the ability to win the hearts of those who cross their threshold, with their kindness, charisma and hospitability.
