Journey into Bison’s Kingdom

20 May 2022 No Comment

Neamț is the county where every rock, lake or hidden corner tells a story, because Neamț is the place where all fundamental myths and most of the Romania’s people legends are found. Not at all at random, the entire Neamț County is the most mentioned land in the literature pages.

Awarded and recognized as a Tourist Destination of Excellence at European level, Neamț County is currently one of the most popular destinations in Romania through the attractiveness of landscapes, unique tourist attractions, cultural events, leisure opportunities, history and impressive traditions.

“Journey into the Bison’s Kingdomis the tourist presentation film of Neamț County and our invitation to all tourists who are eager to learn more about a prolific and fascinating territory, a media project made by Neamț County Council, signed by Sfinx Film, produced by Mister Radu Tora.

Why Neamț? This is the question the film answers by revealing the reasons for the trip to a destination that is always special and impressive.

Spiritual symbols and traditional customs, sacred space of the ancient Dacians, the cradle of Romanian ethnogenesis which holds many legends and myths, with a history and roots that refer to the brightest and most studied prehistoric civilization in Europe, belonging to the Precucuteni-Cucuteni-Trypillia Cultural Complex, a realm of monastic villages, of the holy  Ceahlău Massif, of the “Sea between the Mountains”, of the welcoming people, with a lot of enchantment, of the famous bison all over the world; these are just a few reasons to embark on a journey towards Neamț County.

Here is the only place where you are able to get into ”The Stone Kingdom” of Bicaz Gorges, an irresistible temptation for those who love mountain escalading, in one of the most valuable protected areas  both from the Carpathians and Europe, Şugău Gorges, where there is the longest Via Ferrata mountain route in Romania, 5 lakes known as the paradise of swans and ducks and many museums that display remarkable collections. Also found here in Neamț County, is the lake Cuejdel that has an appearance of a drowned forest, with many trunks that pierce the water surface, which is perhaps the most “photogenic” beauty of Neamț, renowned beyond the borders of our country.

Neamț County is the destination where folk art has a very special place in people’s hearts. To convince yourself, it is enough to enter the impressive Nicolae Popa Museum or the space of universal childhood in Humulești, the Memorial House of Ion Creangă, the most beloved storyteller of the Romanians. Also here in Neamț County, you will be able to find out how the folk craftsmen give life to Creangă’s characters or how they manage to pass on each craft and its secrets from one generation to the other.

Neamț Fortress can bring joy to any tourist, because its walls hide the stories that can be discovered only here, a medieval monument of the greatest value, from the time of the ruler Stephen the Great, who heroically resisted the numerous sieges over time.

The invitation to Neamț County becomes even more challenging, as you can experience here various leisure opportunities, such as: cycling, water sports, events and equestrian courses, suitable both for children and adults, the experience of never forgotten flight, climbing and many more. Last but not the least, tourists who come to Neamț County always enjoy a culinary adventure and this is because the traditional Moldavian cuisine has become famous over the years, being considered one of the tastiest in the world.

Neamț County is also connected to important cultural and historical routes, crossed by ancient pilgrims since time immemorial, to old monasteries and churches, which impress with their architecture, the craftsmanship of wood carving or the varied and special iconography that delights anyone’s eyes. In Neamț, the famous Romanian painters Nicolae Grigorescu and Nicolae Tonitza left their mark, along with others who created valuable works, but whose names have been lost in the mists of time.

Neamț County is also known as the Bison’s Land, with the highest international recognition and the only destination in Romania included in the renowned “100 Sustainable Destinations Top”, since 2017 and in 2022 it was awarded the First Prize at the ITB Berlin International Tourism Fair, during the Green Destinations ceremony Story Awards 2022, in the “Public Vote” category.

In Neamț County one can find the  most monasteries from the country and 537 historical monuments, very old buildings, places of worship, numerous museums and memorial houses, which display to the public valuable collections, some dating from 1210. As an example of such a very old building, we mention Neamț Monastery considered “the Jerusalem of the Romanian Orthodoxy”.
