Borca commune, a small mountain paradise in Neamț County

14 June 2022 No Comment

Borca commune is the land that impresses with its gorgeous landscapes, its full of historical significance sites, its customs and traditions and its welcoming locals. In the West part of the commune, on the right side of River Bistrița, the Bistrița Mountains show their thickly forested peaks, dominated by Secu Peak – 1201 m, Arșița – 1274 m, Bâtca Stejarului – 1337 m, Bușmeiul Mare – 1608 m, Grințieșul Mare – 1758 m, Între Borci – 1830 m and Budacu, with a height of 1859 m.

A region completely covered with fir and pine trees, with a picturesque position and sulfurous mineral waters, recognized for their therapeutic qualities, Borca area has a suitable configuration for a climatic resort and for practicing winter sports. The places are beautiful both in winter and summer, similar to some of the most popular resorts in Switzerland. The strong, clear mountain air and unique landscapes are an excellent remedy for those seeking rest and refuge from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

With a territory that extends in the Southern extremity of the Bistrița Mountains, located on the right riverbank of Bistrița, and in the middle of the Stânișoara Mountains, on the left side of the river, Borca village spreads between absolute altitudes of 650 m, in the major riverbed of Bistrița and 1859 m, in the Budacu Peak from the Bistrița Mountains. The average altitude of the Bistrița Mountains is 1300-1500 m, culminating with Budacu Peak (1859 m), the highest altitude in the commune of Borca, but also in the entire chain of the Bistrița Mountains.

The monotony of the interrivers is interrupted by peaks with a conical or even rocky aspect, which offer important panoramic views towards Ceahlău Massif, Rarău Massif, Călimani and Rodnei Mountains.

Due to the geographical position and natural beauty of the mountain area, Borca has the potential for the development of a skiing area, at the highest standards. The project is expected to be implemented in a partnership between Neamț County Council and the Local Council of Borca commune, but also with private entrepreneurs which may be interested in investing in the area. The complex will be equipped with all the facilities for tourists who are passionate of winter sports, both for amateurs and professionals, thus becoming a national and international level reference site, with all the amenities included: food & drink, accommodation facilities, relaxation and leisure areas.

The guesthouses in the area offer both accommodation and meal services based on local products for all tastes and preferences, as well as relaxation facilities such as tennis courts, hot tubs, barbeque gazebos, as well as other leisure activities depending on the holidays and the season.

Spending a day at the sheepfold, where tourists can enjoy a shepherd’s lunch, is certainly a unique experience for those looking for such a way of spending their time.

A wonderful view and a rich meal with fish dishes can be enjoyed at Stegioara Trout Farm in Borca.
