Over time many monks and nuns lived and prayed in the forests near monasteries like Neamt, Secu, Sihastria or Agapia and they always considered the forest from Sihla as the “strongest wilderness”. In these forests only the most pure monks and nuns lived, some of them in absolute loneliness for decades.

Varatec Monastery is one the biggest and most visited nun monastery from Neamt County. The big church of the monastery impresses through the beautiful interior and the original paintings that are still kept until this day.
In the porch of the church there is a big painting of Heaven and Hell that surrounds the stone inscription from where we find the date when the church was built. The narthex is small and decorated with two large icons of Jesus and Mary Mother of Go with Child.

From the early monastic settlements the abbots organized trade workshops. Their “products” were distributed at other monasteries from the entire Moldova region. The most well known nun monasteries from Neamt County are Agapia and Varatec.
At Varatec Monastery in 1940 there were workshops of religious embroidery and book manufacturing, carpets and weaving, religious painting and decorative art. Many nuns became well known for their skills and were sent to other monasteries to teach their art.

The national musical contest festival for children and youth “Florile Ceahlaului” (“Ceahlau Flowers”) reached its 26 edition and will take place in Piatra Neamt on February 23 and March 1 and 2 2014. The organizers of this event are Neamt County Council and “Carmen Saeculare” Cultural and Art Center.
At the contest can participate children and young vocalists and instrument players of traditional folkloric music with ages between 8 and 25 that enrolled at the contest until February 18 2014.

The History and Archeology Museum from Piatra Neamt hosts the temporary exhibition “Security – an instrument of dictatorship”. The exhibition can be visited between February 12 and March 05 2014. The organizers of the exhibition arte the National Council for Studying the Security’s Archives, Neamt County Museum Complex and Neamt County Schools Inspectorate.
