The history of the ascents from Sihla forest

Over time many monks and nuns lived and prayed in the forests near monasteries like Neamt, Secu, Sihastria or Agapia and they always considered the forest from Sihla as the “strongest wilderness”. In these forests only the most pure monks and nuns lived, some of them in absolute loneliness for decades.

Traditional architectural treasures – wood hermitages

Neamt County is an area where at the shelter of mountains and forests people from these parts built churches, hermitages and villages.

Cerebuc Hermitage from Neamt County

Cerebuc Hermitage is administrated by the Monastery from Ceahlau Mountain. The patron of the monastery is St Ilie. The hermitage was built on the place of an old religious settlement that dates from 1614. The place is located at about 20 km from Bicaz, in Izvorul Alb village. Here there are 5 monks that administrate the hermitage.

Daniil Sihastrul Hermitage from Neamt County

Daniil Sihastrul Hermitage is located 2 km from Sihla Hermitage and it’s the place where people say the famous monk Daniil Sihastru stayed for a while. Also, in this place lived and prayed few nuns. The hermitage was built in their memory.
The patrons of the hermitage: “Sf Prooroc Ilie Tezviteanul” (July 20 – The Prophet Ilie Tezviteanul), “Acoperamantul Maicii Domnului” (October 1) and St Daniil Sihastrul (December 18)
