Nicolae Grigorescu’s paintings from Agapia Monastery

Agapia Monastery is embellished for eternity by the saints painted by Nicolae Grigorescu between 1858 and 1861. He was hired to do this job by Tavefta Ursache, the abbot of Agapia Monastery. She saw an icon of St Mary painted by Nicolae Grigorescu, that we can see today in the museum of the monastery and she was convinced by his talent.

Ceahlau Massif Route: Durau Resort – Fantanele Chalet – Toaca Peak – Dochia Chalet

This hiking route from Ceahlau Massif is located on the north side of the mountain. The starting point is in Durau Resort (800 m), continues to Fantanele Chalet (1220 m), Panaghia Stone, Toaca Peak and Dochia Chalet (1750 m). The marking of the route is a red stripe.

“Sarbatoare pe Ceahlau” Festival – August 8 2010

Sunday, August 8 2010 in Ceahlau commune will take place the first edition of “Sarbatoare pe Ceahlau” Festival (“Sarbatoare pe Ceahlau” can be translated as “Celebration on Ceahlau Mountain”). This festival, which is organized at the same time as Ceahlau Mountain Day, is meant to promote traditional cultural values and cultural tourism in Neamt County.

Fantanele Chalet – Ceahlau Massif

Fantanele Chalet from Ceahlau Mountain has its origins in 1641 in the place called Fantanele, where there was the birth point of three mountain springs. This was a common resting place for shepherds, hunters or common people that came here to stay under the shadow of a secular pine tree and drink some fresh, cold water. In time it became a meeting place on Ceahlau Mountain.

The Cypriot Icon from Secu Monastery

The most important icon from Secu Monastery is the Icon of St Mary, Mother of Jesus from the main church of the monastery. This icon was a gift from ruler Vasile Lupu in 1647 as a sign of respect to Mitropolitul Varlaam (Mitropolit is a high religious position). The icon suffered many modifications and restorations over time and can be found in the main church from Secu Monastery.
