Projects for the development of tourism

Neamt County has a great cultural and historic heritage and is on 6th place in Romania in what regards the touristic potential of the area. Neamt County Council has a series of projects that are meant to explore this potential and to further develop the tourism in the region through the implementation of several projects.

The Historic Monument Neamt Stronghold from Targu Neamt

Built by ruler Petru Musat at the end of the XIV century on a plateau from where they could watch the entire area of the Moldova Valley, Neamt Stronghold was, for that time, an unbeatable fortress. The building first appears in writings in 1395. To explore the touristic potential of this place, Neamt County Council implemented the project “Rehabilitation of the Historic Monument Neamt Stronghold”. The investment was for the rehabilitation of the stronghold, the access road, parking spaces, the house of the keeper of the monument, the water system, interior design and the electric system. The project was completed after 18 months of work in 2009. The total value of the project was over 2.4 million of Euros and was financed through the Phare Ces 2004 Program.

The Historic Monuments from “Curtea Domneasca” Plaza in Piatra Neamt

“Curtea Domneasca” Plaza (The Royal Court) from Piatra Neamt was built by ruler Stefan cel Mare between 1468 and 1475 and is composed of St Joan Church and the Bell Tower. In partnership with Piatra Neamt Town Hall, Neamt County Council restored the buildings of the theater, the art museum and the ethnography museum, the tower and the church through the project “Restoration and exploring the value of this historic and cultural area – Curtea Domneasca from Piatra Neamt – through the rehabilitation of the buildings. The Ethnography Museum, the Art Museum, Tineretului Theater, The Bell tower, the Ruins of the cellar, the Ruins of the inner wall and the museum”. The project was financed through the Regional Operational Program 2007 – 2013. Axe 5 – The Durable Development and Promotion of Tourism, DMI 5.1 – Restoration and durable value for the restored buildings, as well as building the infrastructure. The project also includes green spaces and urban furniture. The total value of the project is 7,2 million Euros.

Development of the touristic infrastructure in the high region of Ceahlau Massif
This is a project through which Duruitoarea Waterfall and Ocolasul Mic refuge buildings were organized. Also, repairs were made at the Search and Rescue Building and at Dochia Chalet and the marking system of the touristic routes.
During the Operational Program for the Development of Human Resources, Axe 5 – Promoting the active measurements of occupation, DMI 5.1 – Development and implementation of active measurements of occupation, Neamt County Council in partnership with Prahova Chamber of Commenrce, Prahova County Council, Dambovita County Council, AJOFM Targoviste, Piatra Neamt Town Hall, Centro Europeo per la Formazione ed Orientamento Professionale, Bari, Italia, (CEFOP), Provincia BAT (Barletta, Andria, Trani) and PartNET developed the project “Strategic instruments for the occupation in the touristic industry”. The general objective of the project was to create opportunities for unemployed persons to be specialized and to work in the tourism industry. The value of the project was 4 million Euros.

The natural and cultural heritage of Neamt County is incredible wealthy in elements that can be exploited for touristic development and we are talking about historic monuments, architectural and art buildings, religious settlements, museums and memorial houses, traditional and folkloric events, ethnography and local artisans. To transform this location into a touristic attraction of European standards, Neamt County Council got a project in the Regional and Operational Program 2007 – 2013, Priority Axe 5 – Durable development and touristic promotion, DMI 5.3 – Promoting of touristic potential and creating of the necessary infrastructure with the purpose of increasing the touristic potential of Romania, the Operation – Development and consolidation of intern tourism through supporting specific products and specific marketing activities for 5 projects that want to promote touristic attractions from Neamt County:
– Promotion campaign of Neamt County touristic attractions at fairs and exhibitions with a value of 231 thousands of Euros
– Promoting the religious tourism from Neamt County with a value of 242 thousands of Euros
– Promoting the natural areas from Neamt County with a value of 242 thousands of Euros
– Folkloric art and traditions in Neamt County with a value of 199 thousands of Euros
– Museum collections and historic heritage in Neamt County with a value of 229 thousands of Euros

During the projects were created albums, brochures, maps and presentation videos of touristic attractions from Neamt County.

Through its own funds Neamt County Council marked 8 of the entrances in Neamt County with modern panels with the map of the county and the parking on the main streets have urban furniture as tables, benches. Informational panels were posted at the entrances in the county, in parking places, near museums and heritage buildings and along the main roads in the county. The panels present information related to the main touristic attractions.
To transform Izvorul Muntelui Lake into a touristic attraction, Neamt County Council developed a plan to access the touristic potential of the area, including the main urban settlements: Bicaz town and communes Hangu, Poiana Teiului and Ceahlau. During the project were identified land areas managed by the local authorities where investment projects can be made. PATZ “Organizing the area of Izvorul Muntelui Lake with touristic potential” is also an instrument for private investors.

The local action plan for environment in Neamt County is meant to present the variety of flora and fauna in the area. This biodiversity is represents by many protected natural areas like Ceahlau National Park, Vanatori Natural Park and three lakes like Vaduri, Pangarati and Cuejdel. To conserve the biodiversity and to ensure a proper management of these natural areas, Neamt County Council implemented three projects from the Regional and Operational Program, Priority Axe 4 – Implementing management systems for nature protection, DMI 4.1 – Development of infrastructure and management plans to protect nature and biodiversity:
– Development of management for Ceahlau National Park – 1,3 million Euros
– Management for natural areas Vaduri Lake and Pangarati Lake – 211 thousands of Euros
– Management for the natural area Cuejdel Lake – 170 thousands of Euros
